Phoberou Monastery

   The Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Phoberon, at the north end of the Bosporos (q.v.). The famous icon painter Lazaros was allowed to take refuge there after the emperor Theophilos (qq.v.) flogged him and burned his palms with redhot nails.
